Healthcare Access

In March of 2011, the Family Resource Center Association of Colorado was able to begin increasing its reach and to help improve the health of more than 20,000 vulnerable children and their families in 44 Colorado counties with the support of a $10.55 million dollar grant from The Colorado Health Foundation.  The Family Resource Center Association's unique network of 23 family resource centers, of which The Piñon Project is a member, will work with the entire family to help them become more self-reliant in areas that affect their family stability, including parenting, health, education, employment, housing, and financial management.

Through the Improving Access to Health Care and Healthy Living Project, the family resource centers of the Family Resource Center Association will increase the number of eligible Coloradans enrolled in the Colorado Medicaid and CHP+ (Child Health Plan Plus) programs and help children and adults adopt healthier lifestyles through nutrition and exercise programs.

One of the current goals of The Piñon Project is to increase enrollments into the Colorado Medicaid and CHP+ (Child Health Plan Plus) programs.  Additionally, our Family Health Advocate, Steve Brace, is assisting families to find a “medical home” as well as helping families with a variety of health care needs including, but not limited to, additional health and dental assistance programs and prescription assistance program.  The Family Health Advocate continues to work with local health partners, clinics, and providers to identify insurance options (Medicaid, CHP+, Medicare and others) as well as promoting regular, preventive visits to doctoras and clinics thus reducing emergency needs for health services.  The Family Health Advocate also continues to provide case-management and referrals to wellness and education services .

For those families needing assistance in obtaining health care, The Piñon Project Family Health Advocate is usually available from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

For more information or to find out how you can be a part of this program call The Piñon Project Family Resource Center at (970) 564-1195, email, or come to our offices at 300 North Elm Street in Cortez.
